NVIDIA has announced an agreement to acquire Hugging Face for approximately $12.93 billion. The platform currently hosts more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications, and is used by more than 18 million developers and roughly 200,000 companies worldwide.

NVIDIA said it plans to scale Hugging Face's infrastructure and expand its reliability, safety, model evaluation and inference capabilities. The company stated that NVIDIA compute will not be required to build or deploy through Hugging Face, and that the platform will continue supporting multi-cloud and multi-accelerator environments.

NVIDIA described itself as Hugging Face's largest contributor of open models and datasets, having released more than 500 models and 250 datasets on the platform. The company framed the acquisition as consistent with its stated commitment to open-weight AI development.
